Amidst the lock-down, Mother Nature is getting back to flourish. There is always a positive side in tough situations.

While people being locked down inside their sweet pretty cages, thousands and lakhs of Olive Ridleys found their way to India the same as the outcome of Venice swans and dolphins emerged during this major pandemic lockdown.

According to the forest department enumeration, lakhs of mother Ridleys arrived together at the same time for the mass nesting and to lay eggs in the Rushikulya rookery. They are still being present near this coast. Due to the COVID-19 lockdown, without any tourist or local disturbance, the turtles are good to lay eggs for the next coming days. The most interesting thing to know is that females arrive at the same beach where they first hatched their eggs, to lay their eggs.

However, the mass nesting period occurs a few weeks, for which the locals and tourists get attracted to grasp the attention of the Olive Ridleys. But the state government has taken precautionary measures to avoid tourists from disturbing the turtles. However people are being settled in their homes, the turtles are relishing their hatching days.

Earlier in 2019, there was no mass nesting that happened indifference to 2018, because of the cyclones and floods that affected the coastal area leaving behind huge piles of minute wastes which kept the turtles away from nesting. But this year in 2020, “double the times” mass nesting occurred with a rising count of 4,00,000 and above because of the regular cleaning and thorough check-up of the coasts before this nesting period.

After they are done with their nesting in Gahirmatha, they started continuing mass nesting in Rushikulya and Gahirmatha Beach, coasts of Odisha. Almost six crores of Olive Ridley turtle eggs are expected to be laid this year.

Almost all the countries undergoing lock-down due to the outbreak of the major corona virus. People being shattered inside homes, and social distancing can be quite weird to accept but for the best of ours and the whole world, this is most appreciated for the forthcoming better world.

The life of each individual has been so much unpredictable and unfair. Expecting the unexpected happens is what everyone is facing right now. At a time like this, let us have a peaceful time staying home and let nature offer some comfort for its own.
